SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN

In this picture the Samuel De Champlain grips a sword so he looks very powerful. The clothe that he wears looks very nice. His apperence show he has a high status. The difference between the first picture and the second picture is he looks more kind in the first picture. Both of those pictures he looks is looking for something. The sword is the same in both the first picture and the second picture,so it seems is his symbol.

I see two men in this picture. I think a man who stands in the top is Samuel De Champlain. He looks like a heroic who hold sword. His eyes looks very firm. This picture reveals he is looking at something. Maybe he is looking forward a new goal. He also looks very powerful and bravery. I think he is man who has a strong spirit of his country and his life.

He is a French navigator and colonial statesman who was born in Brouage, Saintonge, on the bay of Biscay, in 1567. He was died in 1635. France is his nationality. He has a really strong background. His father was a ship-captain and his uncle acting as pilot-general of the Spanish fleets. The book"Bref discours"was written by him. He is the founder of Quebec City. He also was named "The Father of New France".


2. What is his relationship with Canada? Why is he important to Canada?

He made his first voyage to Canada in 1603. He was explored the eastern coast of North America between 1604 and 1607. He was sent to establish a settlement at Quebec in1608.
He was the founder of Quebec City and he also was the governor of Quebec. Quebec is a part of Canada, so he is important to Canada. He helped Huron Indians fight the Iroquois.


3. When did he explore? What was happening during history at this time?

After 1598 he as an observer who visited some Spanish colonies into the Gulf of Mexico. He did first explore on 15 March 1603 to North America.
As an observer he with his members had a fur-trading expedition. At this time he created a map of the St. Lawrence Rive. After he returned to France he published an account as Des Sauvages: ou voyage de Samuel Champlain. He also explored misty Gaspe' Peninsula of Quebec.

He explored Gulf of St. Lawrence on 1603.Then he explored into the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers where besides Quebec City. They also explored misty Gaspe' Peninsula of Quebec. In 1605 he explored much of the coast of Nova Scotia. He explored much of upstate New York and parts of Ontario and eastern Michigan in 1815.
This map shows a little bit routes of his exploration. I find some information of his exploration in the Internet. He did lots of exploration.He spent the rest of his life managing the settlements at Quebec



5. Why did he explore? What were his reasons for exploration?

I found some different reasons of him to have exploration. As the book shows he went to explore because he interested in Americas. I found he wanted to discover a water route across the American continent in Internet. I also found another reason of him to went to exploration because he wanted to find a water route to Asia. Because of those different reasons of him I don't know which is right. As for me I always interested in something then decided to do something for that,so I think Samuel De Champlain maybe interested in exploration or he interested in challenge something.


6. How did he explore? What transportation methods did he use?

He used sail to have exploration. In 1603, he sailed to France on Francois Grave Du Pont's expedition. From 1604-1607 he sailed to Nova Scotia.He went to explore with lots of sailors that can help him. He with his crew explored lots of place and they got lots of challenges. They were very brave because they explored misty Gaspe' Peninsula of Quebec.

This statue of Samuel De Champlain looks very dantesque.Samuel De Champlain didn't simile so it makes him looks very seriously.I see he hold a map in his hand.I think this is a symbol of navigator. He looks is thinking something.
